I mentioned that things are a bit slow since I’m out of town. I’m actually playing a couple shows with my old pal Jacob for his new band, Cascading Slopes. Here we are at last Wednesday’s show at Pianos:
Jacob has got his new album pretty much completed, and I think it sounds really intriguing. It’s a definite step away from a lot of the high-energy, dance-oriented electronic music that the kids like these days, but it also stays clear of drowning in abstract experimentation. Jacob has always had a great love for strong melodies. But in the last few years, he’s also taken inspiration from some of the quieter, overlooked musicians, like Virginia Astely or Kate Bush (ok, maybe Kate Bush isn’t overlooked…but record stores aren’t re-issuing the entire Katie Bush discography like they’re doing for Kraftwerk). Anyway, I think he’s written some really beautiful songs and found a style that is thoroughly his own. I’m looking forward to the album release!
p.s. Cascading Slopes will be playing for the next Wednesdays at Pianos. Hint hint.
